Marketing Food
This is such a dynamic area in agriculture today, and presents many challenges and opportunities for todays farmer. Our experience in selling our production takes place in three very different market places.
The dairy is in a supply managed sector and the price we receive is set using a formula developed by the stake holders in the dairy industry. Components and quality of the milk have significant influence over the final revenue from dairy production.
Our seed potatoes are contracted to commercial potato growers who in turn have contracts with processors. In Alberta the potato industry thrives on the concept of closely matching supply to demand, and prices tend to be very stable.
Grain production is traded based on global markets. Over the past five years prices have been extremely volatile presenting unprecidented opportunity and risk.
